This boldly painted, retro inspired kitchen from British Standard is pushing all of the right buttons for us at Heart Home. It successfully marries many of the trends we predict for the New Year for one thing. Namely, the move away from neutrals and pastel colours in favour of the big, the bold and the colourful. The use of patterned floor tiles (yes we know they've been around for a while but we predict they will be more widely used and not just in designer kitchens), and a growing trend for kitchens with bags of personality.
We love the half-painted walls. They successfully mimic the effect of a vintage kitchen without the dreaded, dated dado rail. With wipe-able paint there's no need either for tiles. And we love the way the wall cabinets are painted white to further emphasise the effect.
And what could pack more punch than a blue and white scheme with a few bold red additions? The Smeg fridge is a must for a retro-inspired kitchen and its cheerful colour will brighten the room on even the dullest of British days.
Note also the wooden worktops, butlers sink, brass taps and reclaimed furniture. All great additions to a kitchen that is inspired by our past but is also bang-up-to-date.
