Book Corner: Undecorate

"The No-Rules Approach to Interior Design" certainly sounds like my kind of interior design book!

Jettisoning the old rulebooks about home décor, Christiane Lemieux (founder and creative director of DwellStudio) challenges tradition in a quintessentially American way in her first coffee-table design book Undecorate, by championing a fresh, unconventional approach to creating a beautiful and comfortable home.

No, the idea isn't that you strip back your home furnishings to the bare minimum, on the contrary, Christiane is encouraging you to infuse your home with your own personality and not shy away from surrounding yourself with the things you love. Undecorate gives a glimpse inside 20 real homes across America to explore the concept of “undecorating” – a term Christiane uses to describe a comfortable, lived in home that’s designed over time and truly reflects your personal style. The book champions "collections" - from books to vintage textiles, french antiques to mid-century modern - all beautifully curated into styled (or not-so-styled) vignettes which allow the homeowners passion and joy for their collectables to shine through.

The overriding message is: don’t follow rules – follow your instincts. Something we could all do well to remember.
