The weather still hasn’t decided its summer and your “staycation” might now seem a little ill advised but that’s no excuse to stay indoors. In the coming weeks there is a feast of antiques and vintage fairs taking place, check the antiques trade gazette and the Association for Art and Antiques Dealers for listings. Two notable and imminent dates are taking place this month.
The International Antique & Collectors Fair is takes place at the South of England Showground in Ardingly, West Sussex on Tuesday 17th and Wednesday 18th July. Drawing stallholders from across the continent and beyond, this summer event will have a distinctly continental flavour.
The longest running bi-monthly market the Sunbury Antiques Market at Kempton Park Racecourse, Middlesex (on Tuesday 31st July) has 700 stalls brimming with antiques and collectables. It’s a must to arrive early as many dealers buy here. You’ll find pretty much everything under the sun here including Belgian chandeliers and old school desks.
With thousands of stylish unique and collectable pieces for sale, going to fairs like these is a day out you won't regret. However if you’re after fine antiques then these probably aren’t the venues for you but the LAPADA Art & Antiques Fair at Berkeley Square probably is and the Before1980 is a new vintage fair in Islington may well be more up your street.
