Recipe of the Week - Apple Crumble

There's always such an abundance of fruit at this time of year and we can't think of a better way to use it than in a crumble. It has to be the ultimate in comfort food desserts! Apple Crumble via Heart Home magazine [1]

Ingredients for the crumble:

300g plain flour, sieved 175g brown sugar 200g unsalted butter, cubed at room temperature Knob of butter for greasing

Ingredients for the filling:

450g apples, peeled, cored and cut into pieces 50g brown sugar 1 tbsp plain flour 1 tbsp of ground cinnamon

Preheat the oven to 180C / fan 160C

Place the flour and sugar in a bowl and mix well. Rub cubes of butter into th e flour mixture. Keep rubbing until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Place apples in a separate bowl and sprinkle over the sugar, flour and cinnamon. Butter a 26cm ovenproof dish. Spoon the apple mixture into the bottom, then sprinkle the crumble mixture on top.

Bake in the oven for 40 – 45 minutes until the crumble is browned and the apple mixture bubbling. Serve with cream, custard or ice cream.
