The very pretty and feminine method of painting furniture, walls and printing fabric with branches of cherry blossoms is an enduring trend from the 18th century Chinoiserie style. It was used in the ladies bedroom or a withdrawing room. Today we see pieces of furniture or use a wallpaper with this fashion and will use it in any part of the house. It is a very pretty style and one I have always been drawn to.
A visit to a new Next Homestore in Ipswich today I saw some lovely furnishings decorated in this lovely fashion:
Mirrored chests of drawers are a lovely complement to this style, they reflect back the patterns. When accompanied with simple modern sofas, a painted chest makes a softer statement, not loud, just elegant and pretty.
