The finishing details to upholstered furniture adds very special touches, nail heads give an extra special touch. Usually the finishing on the edges of upholstered furniture; the double stitching, the piping, the nail heads are all for practical reasons. It protects the edges from the wear and tear. You might notice the the arms or the edge of the furniture are the first areas that start to fray. So there are very different choices to make when you go for re-upholstering your latest find from the flea market or ordering a new piece of furniture. And frequently if it is a contrast to the fabric it adds a detail. Nail heads add a strong detail to the edge of a chair, a sofa or a bed head. It gives it a tailored look and often found nailed around the arm of a Chesterfield from Mydeco:

 

They work very well with leather upholstery, as a matter of fact, it is traditional with leather. But they give ticking or linen an extra touch of class, usually more casual fabrics and textures. And is a lovely contrast with velvet.
