House Tour - A Desert Hideaway

This stunning holiday home is in Las Campanas, part of the high-desert area of Santa Fe known for its luxurious surroundings and access to the outdoor lifestyle. The owners wanted the estate to have a distinctively modern look, but also wanted the interior to be reflective of Santa Fe in a chic way. We asked the designers to tell us a bit about the project below.

Over the fireplace is a New Guinea shield from the 1920's. The sofas are Burton James with locally made slip covers. The dining table was designed by Violante & Rochford and made of solid metal by a local Santa Fe craftsman Mike Schreiber. The coffee table is Knoll.

3. Tell us a little bit about the property.

It’s a new build, and a second home/vacation home.

4. Tell us a little bit about your clients.

The owners wanted a house that would put them near nature and also sports, including golf.  And they wanted a distinctively modern look, but the interior to be reflective of Santa Fe in a chic way.

In the library the blue rug sourced from a local rug store in Santa Fe - Arrediamo. The chairs are by Burton James and were slip covered locally in Santa Fe. The table between the chairs was purchased by VR Interiors in Granada Spain. There is an ancient Chinese Jade Bi on fireplace mantle.

5. How big a job was it?

It was a big job because it was a new build, and we were involved in everything from the ground up.

6. Were there any particular problems to be overcome?

To maintain a distinctively modern look, but still have the interior reflect Santa Fe in a chic way.

The king-sized bed was made of maple by a local Santa Fe craftsman Christopher Thayer. There is a 1920's Navajo textile over the back of white slip covered chair.  Chair was made by Burton James.

7. With this project, what are you most proud of?

Blending the ancient with the new. Often times, an art object from long ago will be so modern it can trick the eye. We also love the dream-like bedroom.

8. What was the client’s reaction to the finished project?

They loved it!  And so did we!

At the foot of the bed in the guest bedroom is an antique Moroccan chest from the mid 1800's. The lamps were sourced from Design Warehouse in Santa Fe, NM

9. What are you working on now?

We have so many projects going on at once, which is good.  They are all over the USA, and many of them are for second or third houses for already existing clients.  We love to be busy, and we have a lot of exciting things happening.  All good!
