A new accessory brand is in town and its taking a good pinch of its influences from its founders creative career. Designer Charlotte Murphy has drawn on her experience as an editorial photographer of 18 years.
Disappointed with some cushions that had become lifeless and frayed after a few months, Charlotte decided to make her own. Starting with a love of natural materials, a passion for leather and suede soon developed after discovering some unusual leather hides with individual, natural patterns and textures.
Charlotte found a sumptuously soft, durable material that ages with character. She matched it with a fabric back to allow the cushions to breathe and explains "Leather both sides wouldn't let the air in, I like cushions to be soft and huggable and easy to plump. Each cushion is as unique as the hide its made from. No two are the same and they all celebrate that uniqueness, embracing the imperfections on the hide - as they age they will only gain more character.”
An enthusiastic reaction from friends with requests to make specific colours and sizes followed - she realised she had designed something desirable and had a great opportunity to take them to a wider audience and expand on her creative career.
The beautiful one of a kind and custom made cushions are each handcrafted with care and thoughtful detail in the workshop in Hertfordshire where she lives, allowing Charlotte to continue to work with her love and interest in people and their homes.
Murphy McCall is offering unique leather and suede handcrafted cushions with a made to order service for those looking for something a bit more bespoke.
