This festive season, iconic Italian heavyweights Smeg and Dolce&Gabbana will once again collaborate as the fashion powerhouse takes over the UK’s most famous department store: Harrods. Dolce&Gabbana will this year launch its very own Christmas Market in-store, kicking off on 2nd November until 28th December.
To begin, shoppers and tourists will be treated to an incredibly stylish window display imagined exclusively by the fashionable duo. A Silician puppet theatre – complete with Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana miniatures in marionette form – will welcome shoppers entering the store from the famous Brompton Road.
Meanwhile, Harrods’ fourth floor will resemble an Italian piazza, strung with twinkly lights and Italian-inspired decorations. Booths will display a variety of luxurious goods, including men’s and women’s clothing, gifts, accessories, toys, fragrance and fine jewellery, many of which have been designed exclusively for the store to celebrate the project.
Most striking about the takeover, however, is that it incorporates not just fashion - hence Smeg’s involvement with the campaign. Having recently opened its own ‘shop-in-shop’ at Harrods, which stocks a wide selection of products across the brand’s large and small domestic appliance ranges, Smeg’s involvement in the takeover only further strengthens the longstanding partnership between the two brands.
This year marked the launch of Smeg and Dolce&Gabbana’s second campaign, Sicily is my Love ; a unique selection of small domestic appliances decorated in traditional Sicilian motifs. In 2016, Smeg and D&G unveiled Frigoriferi d’Arte – a collection of 100 bespoke, hand-painted versions of the brand’s iconic FAB28 fridge, each of which takes over 250 hours to create. All of these will be available to purchase at Harrods or Smeg’s recently-opened flagship store in London.
To support Dolce&Gabbana’s takeover, Smeg will source three additional members of staff to help with sales of its Sicily is my Love collection during this extremely busy time of year. Smeg products will also be found in the exclusive Dolce&Gabbana penthouse suite, found on the top floor of the store.
