Getting a Country Look Bathroom

In the bathroom, it’s easy to create a haven with a clear direction in terms of style. Some choose ultra-modern clean white luxury bathrooms, while others choose decorative finishing and colour to give the room a more personal touch. One decorative style which is extremely popular at the minute is the country look. Dreaming of a place in the countryside, homeowners and interior designers are choosing bathroom furniture and accessories which gives the room a soft yet warm and inviting mood. When choosing your new bathroom furniture and fixtures, follow these simple pieces of advice to fit a bathroom which will live up to your country dreams.

Integral to a country bathroom is a feature bath. If you have the space and budget, choose a cast-iron bath that will be available in a coloured finish such as a pale buttermilk or vellum shade. This tone can be reproduced on other pieces of bathroom furniture or through bathroom wall tiles and painting. If you are choosing a standard fitted bath, use bath panels to add decoration to the normally plain white shape. Oak or Beech bath panels will keep in the country feel.

A traditional basin with pedestal works well with the country look and will also look great with most other bathroom fittings. You could also use a wall mounted basin which will add an art deco feel to a country bathroom. Use under sink storage cabinets with shaker style designs if you’re looking for some really good storage space.

A traditional toilet to match the basin will work well here. Choose a wooden toilet seat that matches any wood in the room.

There is a great selection of taps available for a country style bathroom. Use large basin taps with traditional finishes and a large bath shower mixer with a good-sized handset. If you’re after a more unusual look, go for high neck, globe or bib taps in gold or brass finishes.

Walls & Floors

The range of bathroom tiles available is large, and it can be quite daunting choosing shades and styles to suit your room. When choosing natural coloured tiles, stick to ranges such as Laura Ashley, where the tiles will normally be made as part of a collection and the tiles will go together if you’re choosing more than one shade. Subtle texture within the tiles will stop the room looking flat.

To give you the relaxed country look, buy a chair or bath stool to sit near the bath or use for towel storage. If you’re in need of shelving, choose shelves that use metal and glass in a traditional way or use white wood shaker styles to match any existing furniture. Wooden duckboards will also look great as an alternative to bath mats.
