Mini Moderns New Dungeness Collection

Having spent the last year renovating a converted railway carriage on Dungeness Beach, Mini Moderns didn’t have far to look for inspiration for their latest wallpaper design. In fact, they just had to step out of the door and survey the captivating landscape and esoteric structures that populate the beach.

The wallpaper features a mass of shingle, punctuated by illustrated vignettes of quaint cabins, abandoned fishing boats and ramshackle huts. Anchoring the print are the two lighthouses that flank the Mini Moderns beach house.

The design duo explain: "We wanted to capture the magical environment - the structures and points of interest that anyone exploring the surrounding area will discover. Our aim was to evoke the experience of being on Dungeness beach. The landscape is in constant flux – structures are decaying and becoming obsolete, whilst others are being renovated or saved from decay at the hands of the extreme elements. We wanted to capture a moment in time – the period of time that we observed the beach."

For decades, Dungeness has been a source of inspiration for artists, from Eric Ravilious to Derek Jarman, and has featured as a distinctive location for films, music videos and television dramas. The landscape and the surrounding countryside has now become the inspiration for the Mini Moderns 2014 collection, entitled 'Hinterland', of which 'Dungeness' is the launch print.

Dungeness is available in 5 colourways: Washed Denim, Chalkhill Blue, Concrete, Pale Verdigris and Coach Emerald. £50 per roll, exclusive to
