We know Zoe and the guys at Out of the Dark quite well and were delighted when we heard that they would be working together. Zoe is known for her love of colour and flowers and both parties use colour as an inspiration in their work. You only have to look at the home of Jade and Jay (founders of OOTD) in the April 2014 issue of Heart Home to appreciate that!
The Flower Project is a collection of individual pieces created for LDF which are a vision from Zoe’s mind and magpie eye, beautifully crafted at the Out of the Dark workshop. Ultimately it is designed to provoke everybody’s creative juices to explore what might be possible in upholstery.
The furniture items were chosen for being quite bland in their old and sorry state. Zoe chose a colour spectrum inspired by bright jewels and vintage gems, experimenting with unusual colour pairing in paint and textiles. The upholstery fabrics selected are all lush velvets, the ultimate in glamour for furniture upholstery. Out of the Dark then put in the hard work to sand, paint, upholster and recover the pieces, finally adding the finishing touch which makes these pieces stand out from the crowd…felt flowers handmade by Zoe and her team are sewn in a free form pattern across the furniture.
These are the ultimate statement piece for those inspired by colour, taking embellishment to definite “statement” level.
Zoe says “I gave OOTD quite a challenge with this project – attaching 3D embellishment was something new for us all. I’m so very proud of the results. Jay’s attention to detail in the production stages proved key in ensuring the furniture is beautifully finished”.
We absolutely adore them!
